The aim of the focus campaign was to test the heavy metal content in carnival make-up.

37 samples from all over Austria were analysed. Six samples were rejected:

• All six samples due to elevated cadmium levels

Cosmetic products must not contain cadmium or its compounds. The unintentional presence of small quantities of a prohibited substance resulting from impurities of natural or synthetic ingredients, the manufacturing process, storage, migration from the packaging and which cannot be technically avoided in good manufacturing practice is permitted if the cosmetic product is safe.
