The aim of the priority action was to investigate certain colouring agents, as various colouring agents are not permitted in the different spice products or maximum levels (combined maximum quantity restrictions) exist for certain colouring agents in spice products.

The following colourings were tested:

  • Tartrazine (CI19140/E102)
  • Cochineal red A (E124)
  • Green S (brilliant acid green E142)

76 samples from the federal states of Styria, Vienna and Vorarlberg were analysed, no sample was rejected.
