This year, AGES is once again a partner of the Europe-wide "Safe2Eat" initiative to promote food safety. The aim is to provide people with scientifically sound, easy-to-understand information in order to increase the focus on food safety in everyday life. This year's focus is on topics such as the prevention of food-borne illnesses, clear food labelling and strategies to reduce food waste.
Managing Director Johannes Pleiner-Duxneuner underlines the national importance of the campaign: "As the One Health organisation in Austria, we look after the health of people, animals, plants and the environment 365 days a year. Of course, this also includes food safety. As a result, we often recognise problems before they reach consumers, such as zoonotic pathogens in animals or mycotoxins in plant-based foods. However, consumers can also do their bit to ensure that their food remains safe. Our aim with the 'Safe2Eat' campaign is therefore to make scientific findings accessible so that consumers can make well-informed decisions."
Over the course of the year, various measures will be implemented at EU and national level - including social media campaigns, information materials, cooperation with educational institutions and events. Consumers can actively participate, share content and help spread the word using the hashtag #Safe2EatEU.
