The aim of the focus campaign was to check compliance with the limit values for methyl salicylate and to verify the claims.
42 samples from all over Austria were analysed. Eight samples were objected to, in some cases more than once:
- The maximum levels for methyl salicylate were exceeded in three samples
- The methyl salicylate content of one sample led to it being categorised as a medicinal product
- Two samples contained unauthorised disease-related information
- One sample was rejected due to inadequate labelling
- One sample was rejected due to lack of notification
- A further sample was objected to due to an unauthorised advertising claim
