The aim of the focus campaign was to check whether hygiene products were being placed on the market with misleading claims. 52 samples from all over Austria were analysed and ten samples were rejected:
- Five because of disease-related claims
- Four due to inaccurate properties
- One due to misleading information on composition
In the case of oral hygiene products, there were unauthorised claims about the prevention of tooth decay and bleeding gums or about the inaccurate effects of incorporated activated charcoal. Information on the composition of an interdental brush and a nappy was also potentially misleading. In the case of menstrual products, there were claims to relieve menstrual pain and to eliminate skin irritation.
